This policy has taken a robust, systems based approach to the issue and further includes analysis on the cultural safety of medical education. Similarly to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, this policy will be reviewed by the Australian Indigenous Doctors’ Association and voted on at Council 3.

Description:

This policy would provide a broad systems analysis of health promotion in Australia, centred around principles of the Ottawa Charter including public policy, supportive environments, community action and health service reorientation. Whilst many policies across the base touch on these concepts, this policy will serve to provide a holistic interpretation of the Australian health system and refer to existing policies for more specific matters. Description:

This policy allows AMSA to advocate directly to the Australian government on its engagement with global health issues, making it one of our most actionable Global Health policies. The review of this policy has strengthened our stance by discussing how foreign aid can be a mechanism of neocolonialism.
